GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas cross country team officially started their 2024 campaign today as they co-hosted the Stormy Seas Opener. Sophomore
Edward Wells (18:50.34) notched a new personal record at the Southwestern University course on Friday.
In a loaded field that featured Division I competition, the first finisher for the CTX men was
Thomas Hughes who placed 28th overall (ninth against Division III opponents) with a time of 16:44.27.
Matthew Kangas (17:08) crossed the finish line second for CTX, while
Samuel Valdez finished third for the Tornados at 18:02.62, while
Cade Ehlers (18:04.56) &
Damon Vasquez (19:13.70) established collegiate PRs.
Daniel Bizima rounded out the men's scoring at 20:57.45.
Leading the charge for the CTX women runners was
Ashley Rivera (21:52.19), who shaved over two minutes off her time from this same course last season. The freshmen duo of
Maryn Trianni (28:51.31) &
Ashley Ramirez (30:56.17) showed well in their collegiate debuts.
Mackenzie Dixon clocked in at 31:44.23.
Rylee Whorton, a track & field star for the Tornados, helped score points for the Tornados in her cross country debut with a time of 31:53.05.

Concordia Texas will next head to Tyler, Texas to compete in the UT Tyler Cross Country Opener next Saturday, September 6th. The men are scheduled for an 8am start time, while the women will begin at 8:45am.
