Women's Hoops Comes Up Short Against SCAC-Leading TLU

The 'Roos are now 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the SCAC.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading Texas Lutheran, who entered Saturday as the last team unbeaten in conference play, but the 'Roos came up short in a 63-57 defeat in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the SCAC.
Trinity Williams scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 rom deep, while adding four assists to lead the 'Roos and Brooklyn Matthews added 12 points and eight boards. Lexi Martin scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out three assists for Austin College, as the 'Roos shot 42.4% from the field compared to 35.4% for Texas Lutheran, but the Bulldogs grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and forced 16 turnovers while giving it away just seven times themselves. Austin College also attempted only two free throws in the game, with TLU outscoring the 'Roos 9-to-1 from the stripe.
The game was tied at 12 after the opening quarter before the Bulldogs took a 28-26 advantage at the half, and the margin grew to 47-38 heading into the fourth. The 'Roos battled back and cut it to 56-52 on a basket by Williams with 1:31 left, but were unable to get closer down the stretch. Texas Lutheran had an 18-to-7 edge in points off of turnovers, and got 18 points and nine rebounds from Sarahi Jones. Lauren Sansano added 10 points and grabbed eight boards for the Bulldogs.
