CC Falls at Trinity in a Battle for First Place in the SCAC

Colorado College dropped its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season, falling at Trinity University, 5-1, in a battle for first place atop the league table on a steamy Friday night in Southern Texas.

After conceding a goal 32 seconds into the match, CC regrouped and leveled the score on Kiran Singh's fifth goal of the season in the 16th minute. He also extended his scoring streak to three games with his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Miles Montgomery started the sequence by beating his defender to the end line and crossed a left-footed ball towards the back post. Jackson Silverstein won the initial header and Kiran followed up the rebound with a shot from inside the six-yard box.

Silverstein extended his point streak to three games and now is second on the team with eight points and four assists.

Montgomery leads the team with five assists and is third with seven points.

A little more than 11 minutes after Singh tied the game, Fraser Burns put TU ahead to stay, and the Texas Tigers struck again 2:18 later with the first of two goals by Jack Eubank.

An own goal put Trinity ahead 4-1 early in the 34th minute, and Colorado College's deficit remained at three until Eubank struck for the second time with a little less than six minutes remaining in the game.

"Tonight's game started poorly and didn't get much better for us," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We did score a nice equalizing goal, but simply didn't play well enough tonight. We were our own worst enemy at times.

"The good news is that we have an opportunity to put things right on Sunday. The TLU game could have significant consequences for conference tournament seeding."

Trinity finished with a 16-11 advantage in total shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
