GEORGETOWN, Texas – Trinity University's men's golf team won the West Region Invitational on Monday, hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club.
The Tigers finished one shot clear of runner-up University of Texas-Dallas, followed by hosting Southwestern in third place, and two teams from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in fourth and fifth. The teams played 36 holes to determine the winner today, with Trinity carding an opening-round score of 305. The Tigers were eight shots behind Southwestern in second place after round one, but three shots in front of UT-Dallas. Trinity saw a 15-shot improvement in the second round to take over the lead, finishing with a team score of 290 that was just enough to hold off UTD with its score of 288 in round two.
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) won the individual title as well after shooting a seven-under score of 137 on the par-72 course. Mason opened the day with a two-under 70 that gave him just a one-shot cushion, but he exploded for a 67 in round two to win the tournament by five strokes. He carded a tournament-best 13 total birdies on the day, including seven in the second round to clinch the win.
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) shot an even-par 72 in the second round, finishing with a total of 150 that put him in a tie for 13th individually. His six-shot improvement from round one was the best among the Tiger team, and he joined Mason as the only Trinity golfers to shoot even par or better.
Grant Clark (College Grove, Tenn. / Page) was 22nd individually with his total score of 153 (77-76), with
Aiden Marlow (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) finishing in a tie for 24th after scoring a 155 (80-75).
Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) was just one shot back with a 156 (80-76), while
Barret Wisener (Dallas, Texas / Sachse) shot 162 (82-80) as an individual competitor at the tournament.

Trinity will be back in action in two weeks at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The tournament will be held April 21-23, at the White Bluff Golf Resort in Lake Whitney, Texas.
