SEGUIN, Texas -- Senior defender/midfielder Bailey Nimtz (New Braunfels/Canyon) put away a penalty kick at the 63 minute mark to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 1-0 non-conference win over St. Thomas.
TLU and St. Thomas each now play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. But Friday's match was the first of two meetings in 2019 for the Bulldogs and the Celts. The conference match will be played Sunday, Nov. 3 in Houston.
Freshman keeper Krystal Pulaski (Cibolo/Steele) earned the start in goal in her first collegiate match, and she came up big with five saves, including a save late in the second half that preserved the Bulldogs' lead.
St. Thomas had an edge in shots on goal, 6-4.
The Bulldogs had an overall shot advantage of 11-9.
TLU (1-0) next travels to Brownwood, Texas for next Friday's 2 p.m. contest with Howard Payne.
