
Gents Drop 3-2 Heartbreaker On Friday

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker, 3-2 to Concordia University on Friday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Atkins Field.
The Gents (6-6-1, 2-4-0 SCAC) will wrap up their home weekend on Sunday as they face McMurry University at Noon. Concordia (6-4-3, 3-3-0 SCAC) scored two goals in the first half within two minutes of each other to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Jose Aguirre scored all three goals in the match for the Tornados, his fifth, sixth, and seventh of the season. He was assisted by Leo Lopez in the 36th minute to make it a 1-0 score and then less than two minutes later he scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
Centenary, however, stormed back early in the second half as freshman MF Emiliano Mondragon (Dallas, Texas) found the net in the 45th minute for his third goal of the season. Sophomore F Carter Webb (Flower Mound, Texas) assisted as the Gents cut their deficit in half at 2-1.
Just over seven minutes later, senior MF Brennan Amato (Denham Springs, La.) scored his third goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2. Freshman F Nathan Uduojie (Houston, Texas) and Mondragon each had an assist on the tying goal. Aguirre then converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute to give the Tornados a 3-2 lead and the eventual win.
Centenary freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) played all 90 minutes and made seven saves. Joshua Redding also went the distance for Concordia and made four saves.
Concordia was aggressive on offense and finished with 22 shots while Centenary had 10. The Gents took four corner kicks and the Tornados took three. The match featured 26 fouls (15 by the Gents and 11 by the Tornados) and six yellow cards were issued.
