GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas cross country team continues to show growth early this season as they posted strong times at the Southwestern Showdown.
Ashley Rivera earned a new PR in the 6k, while three Tornados placed in the top-20 in the men's 8k on Saturday morning.
In the women's race where the Tornados finished sixth as a team, Rivera (26:32.84) finished 20th overall. Four CTX women racers competed in their first 6k as
Maryn Trianni (31:59.65),
Ashley Ramirez (38:21.36),
Rylee Whorton (39:30.86), and
Kaiyla Love (52:59.88) collected collegiate plateaus.
Lluvia Rodriguez was the third Tornado to cross the finish line, while
Mackenzie Dixon clocked in at 39:31.22.
In the men's 8k,
Thomas Hughes (28:57.01, 13th),
Samuel Valdez (29:17.97, 16th), and
Matthew Kangas (29:50.32, 20th) all earned a top-20 finish at the loaded race. In their first collegiate 8k,
Cade Ehlers finished 31:35.34 and
Damon Vasquez posted a time of 42:06.39.
Daniel Bizima crossed the finish line at 32:33.91, and
Edward Wells finished at 33:24.01.

Concordia Texas will now have two weeks to prepare for the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday, September 28th.
