Hawks Conclude Millsaps Tournament With Loss To McMurry

JACKSON, Miss.- In their final match at the Millsaps Tournament, Huntingdon Hawks volleyball(2-10 overall) fell to the Warhawks of McMurry University 3-0.

How it happened

Coming off a win in their matchup against Centenary last night, the Hawks battled in the first set against McMurry, but ultimately would be defeated 25-23. The two teams started off trading points, bringing the score to 6-6 early on. The Hawks would take a small 12-10 lead following a kill from Eva Ellenburg, but a late 10-3 push from the Warhawks gave McMurry a 20-17 lead. Still fighting, an ace from Ashlen Janowski late in the set would even the score at 23, but McMurry managed to secure the last two points to claim the set.

To start the second set, Janowski alongside Morgan Suggs led Huntingdon to an early 4-1 lead, but the Warhawks battled back to even the score at 4. The teams were even until a kill from Izzy Valldeperas sparked a 8-2 Huntingdon run to put the Hawks ahead 12-6, but McMurry responded by putting together a 13-4 run to take a 19-16 lead that they never squandered, winning the set 25-19.

In the third and final set, the Warhawks defeated Huntingdon 25-17. McMurry's efficient attack, featuring 16 kills with just 1 error, put the Hawks away, maintaining the lead once they claimed it by a score of 8-7.
