SAN ANTONIO – Trinity's men's swimming & diving team earned another victory over the University of St. Thomas (TX) on Saturday, finishing off a weekend sweep of its fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent.
Trinity won all but one of the events in today's meet, including two mixed relay victories. The 400 mixed medley relay consisting of
Ian Truong (Tulsa, Okla. / Jenks) and
Nickolas Rotolo (Houston, Texas / Houston Christian) from the men's team, along with
Sienna Nordquist (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) and
Jules Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway) from the women's team won with a time of 4:00.64 to start the day. The team of
Owen Flynn (Guthrie, Okla. / Heritage Hall) and
Trace Briones (San Antonio, Texas / Health Careers) combined with women's swimmers
Erin Morie (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu Academy) and
Sid McCullough (Centennial, Colo. / Cherry Creek) to finish as the runner-up in 4:02.05. McCullough and Weihrdt came back at the end of the meet to win along with
JC Holmes (Superior, Colo. / Centaurus) and
William Kitto IV (Prairieview, La. / Catholic High School) in the 400 mixed free relay in a time of 3:36.42. The runners-up with a time of 3:38.29 in that relay were Briones and
John Fontenot (Austin, Texas / St. Andrew's), along with
Anna Stouffer (St. Louis, Mo. / Clayton) and
Emily Baggett (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood) from the Tiger women's team.
Caleb Del Rosario (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury) and Fontenot led the Tiger men with two individual wins each. Del Rosario won the 100 individual medley in 56.51 seconds, then won the 50 breaststroke in 27.88 seconds. Fontenot picked up wins in both the 50 free and the 50 backstroke, finishing in 22.92 seconds and 25.59 seconds, respectively. Fontenot was also the runner-up in the 50 butterfly with a time of 24.58 seconds.
Briones was third to Fontenot in the 50 fly by just 0.01 seconds, but did get a win in the 100 free with a time of 48.80 seconds. Truong won the 200 free early in the day with a time of 1:50.50, finished second to Del Rosario with a time of 30.33 seconds in the 50 breast, and was third in the 100 free with his time of 49.63 seconds. Rotolo had his win in the middle of the meet, taking gold in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.36. Flynn won the 200 breast in 2:20.67 and was second in the 50 back in 26.33 seconds. Kitto was second in the 200 free (1:52.19) and fourth in the 50 fly (24.63), while
Max Buchwald (Wilsonville, Ore. / Wilsonville) was second in the 200 back (2:17.17) and third in the 50 back (27.92).
Chase Hays (Austin, Texas / Anderson) was the runner-up to Briones in the 100 free with a time of 49.37 seconds. Holmes was third in the 200 free (1:56.33) and second in the 50 free (23.56).

After splitting up to compete in multiple events this weekend, the entire Tiger men's team will be back together November 22-24 for the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Trinity at the Alamo Heights High School Natatorium.
