Johnson's Career Night Not Enough as TLU Falls to Schreiner, 86-78

SEGUIN, Texas -- Despite a career-high 26 points and three rebounds from Jonah Johnson (Cibolo/Steele), Texas Lutheran fell to Schreiner, 86-78, on Saturday.

Johnson scored a career-high 26 points off the bench on 9-of-16 shooting and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) and Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) joined Johnson in double-figures with 15 and 14 points respectively. Allen added six rebounds and four assists while Tapken finished with a team-high eight rebounds and two assists for Texas Lutheran (6-17, 4-10 SCAC).

Schreiner would have the hot hand early, riding the emotions of their pregame Senior Night ceremonies but Texas Lutheran would battle back to tie the game 19-all entering the second media timeout. Texas Lutheran outscored the Mountaineers 17-16 over the course of the final 7:30 of the half to take a one-point lead into the locker room. Allen and Johnson combined for 19 of the Bulldogs 36 first half points.

Fouls would be the Bulldogs' detriment in the second half as Schreiner attempted 23 free throws on 15 TLU fouls in the second half, making 19 of them as the Mountaineers outscored TLU 51-42. Schreiner led by as many as 11 points in the second half. TLU would only have 16 free throws for the entire game. Johnson attempted to will the Bulldogs to a win with 17 second half points but 25 second half points from Schreiner's All-American Kamden Ross kept the Bulldogs at bay.
