
Ladies Fall To Tigers In Friday Road Contest
The Centenary women's basketball team lost 109-37 to the Colorado College Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening inside Reid Arena.
Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary women's basketball team lost 109-37 to the Colorado College Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday evening inside Reid Arena.
The Ladies (2-13, 1-6 SCAC) saw their losing streak reach four games and fell to 1-5 on the road this season. The Tigers (14-2, 6-1 SCAC) remained unbeaten at home (8-0) and have now won 11 games in a row over the Ladies.
Colorado College took a 38-11 lead after one quarter and outscored Centenary 24-8 in the second period to lead comfortably at halftime, 62-19. The Tigers then outscored the Ladies 47-18 in the second half to cruse to the win.
The Tigers shot 57.8 % (37-64) from the floor for the game, 15-30 from beyond the arc, and 20-27 at the free-throw line for 74.1 %. The Ladies were just 15-58 overall for 25.9 %, 0-5 from 3-point range, and 7-8 at the FT line for 87.5 %. Colorado College outrebounded Centenary 47-27 and won the battle in the paint, 44-22.
The Tigers finished with an 18-4 advantage in second-chance points, 13-2 in fast break points, 46-12 in bench points, and scored 28 points off of Centenary's 16 turnovers while the Ladies turned eight CC TO's into four points. Centenary finished with five steals, four assists, and one blocked shot while CC had 29 assists, nine steals, and nine blocked shots.
Junior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) led the Ladies with 11 points and reached double figures for the sixth time this season. She finished 3-7 from the floor and 5-6 at the FT line in 33 minutes with an assist and a steal. Freshman F Shyanne Phillips (Leesville, La.) scored eight points in 26 minutes and grabbed three rebounds as she was 4-12 from the floor.
Freshman G Alexis Duhon (Westlake, La.) added six points in 22 minutes as she finished 2-8 from the floor and 2-2 at the FT line with an assist, a rebound, and a steal. Freshman G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) and freshman F Anaya Yunusah (New Orleans, La.) each scored four points, and freshman G Julissa Cabrera (Denham Springs, La.) and freshman F Laijah Rockward (Houma, La.) each chipped in two points.
Rivera was 2-7 from the floor in 16 minutes with two rebounds, an assist, and a steal, and Yunusah was 2-6 from the floor with five boards and a blocked shot in 26 minutes.
Senior C Zoë Tomlinson led all scorers with 20 points as she was 5-6 from the floor and 10-10 at the FT line in just 17 minutes. Tomlinson grabbed seven rebounds and had an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. Kayla Mackel (17), Juliana Garcia (14), and Willa McLaughlin (10) joined her in double figures and McLaughlin pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The Ladies will face the University of St. Thomas on Sunday in Houston to wrap up the weekend and then travel to Kerrville, Texas on Jan. 31 to face Schreiner University and to San Antonio on Feb. 1 to face Trinity University.
