SEGUIN, Texas – The 19th-ranked Trinity University women's golf team finished in a tie for second place after the second round of action at the season-opening Lady Bulldog Classic on Tuesday.
The Tigers shot a team total of 600 (301-299) for the 36-hole event, tying fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference school Southwestern University (TX), and finishing seven strokes in front of another conference member, the University of St. Thomas (TX). The University of Texas-Dallas won the team event and the individual medalist honors.
First-year
Marlo Zamora (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) was Trinity's top golfer over the two-day tournament, shooting a consistent 144 (72-72) over 36 holes. She finished second individually and was just three shots behind the leader.
Senior
Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls) had the low round of the day for the Tigers, shooting a one-under-par 70 to rise up to tie for sixth place individually. Flynn shot 147 (77-70) for the tournament and had one of the team's best improvements from day one.
Fellow senior
Lucy Hansen (Gilbert, Ariz. / Campo Verde) tied for 13th with a total score of 154 (76-78) this week. Senior
Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) shot 157 (76-81) and first-year
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) finished with a total of 160 (81-79) in her first collegiate event.
Juniors
Carmen Kennett (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) and
Kate Schulle (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) were both playing as individuals in the tournament, as was first-year
Kayleigh Yang (The Woodlands, Texas / Oak Ridge). Yang wound up with the best improvement from yesterday's round, shooting a 79 on Tuesday for an 11-shot difference from her first 18 holes. Kennett also improved her opening-round score to lead the three Tiger individuals with a score of 161 (84-77), while Schulle was just behind her teammate with a score of 163 (83-80).
Trinity will return to action next month at its own Alamo City Classic, hosted at The Quarry Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 9-10. The Tigers close out the fall schedule at the Golfweek D-III Fall Invitational, held in Destin, Florida, October 15-17.
