Colorado College freshman
Emma Phillips captured the 1,650-yard freestyle title Saturday on the final day of the SCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
Phillips touched the wall in a time of 17:57.96, more than seven seconds faster than second-place Blythe Iverson of Trinity University. Junior
Kerren Matthews finished the race in eighth place with a time of 19:24.80.
"That race was the most fun I had all weekend," Phillips said. "I am most proud of being able to swim fast for the team. This weekend brought a lot of highs and lows, but we all were able to finish really strong today. The seniors really lead the team with their positivity, and I am so grateful for the support I had while racing this whole weekend, especially today during my mile."
"Emma swam an amazing race to win the 1650," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "She swam her own race, was patient to stay in her pace at the beginning, and then got better every 500 passing those who had taken it out fast."

Gina Lynch, who placed eighth in the 200 backstroke.
Brush led the Tigers with five top-three finishes during the meet, followed by Phillips and Hester with four apiece.
"I'm really proud of the energy with our team today," Goodman James said. "It was a great way to send off our seniors, and a great way to finish this crazy unpredictable season."
The Tigers finished third in the team standings with 506 points, behind team champion Trinity (1029) and Southwestern University (794).
