
HOUSTON – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas saw their two-match winning streak snapped Sunday in a setback to ranked Trinity (Texas).
Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III poll, defeated the Celts (4-3) by a score of 9-0.
Michael Hopkins led the way for the Celts in their match against one of the SCAC's perennial tennis powers. After a 6-1 setback in his flight three singles match against Wilson Hamilton, Hopkins fought back and took Hamilton to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (8-6).
In flight three doubles play, Hopkins and Tyler Head gave a strong showing against Hamilton and Artur Zigman, who won 8-6.
The UST men are scheduled to return to action Saturday, March 28, when they visit Centenary.
