
Gents Win Third-Straight Game On Friday
The Centenary men's basketball team won its third game in a row and recorded its fifth win over the last six games as the Gents posted a 90-73 win over the Southwestern University Pirates on Friday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Gents (6-8, 4-1 SCAC) improved to 5-5 at home and will complete their four-game home stand on Sunday versus the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs at 2 p.m. The Pirates fell to 1-13 overall and 1-4 in SCAC play following Friday's loss.
The Gents are 27-10 over their last 37 home games and are now 48-16 in the Gold Dome since the beginning of the 2019-20 season. Centenary has won 10 in a row over Southwestern.
Centenary shot 46.8 % (29-62) from the floor for the game, 17-35 (48.6 %) from beyond the arc, and a solid 15-20 (75.0 %) from the free-throw line. The Gents' 17 treys are a season high and also their best single-game percentage this season. Southwestern shot 47.2 % (25-53) from the floor overall, 11-23 from beyond the arc for 47.8 %, but just 12-21 from the FT line for 57.1 %.
The Pirates edged the Gents in the rebounding battle, 33-32, but turned the ball over 16 times which led to 29 Centenary points. The Gents took care of the ball well, only turning it over seven times, as the Pirates scored just six points off of those giveaways. Centenary nearly matched its season-low number of TO's (six) in a home win over Dallas on Jan. 12. The all-time Gold Dome record for fewest number of turnovers in a game by the Gents is four against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 3, 1986.
The Gents recorded a season-best 20 assists and added nine steals and two blocked shots while the Pirates finished with 17 assists, five blocked shots, and four steals. Southwestern scored 20 points in the paint to Centenary's 16, the Gents scored three fast break points and the Pirates had none. The visitors scored 16 second-chance points to the Gents' five, and the Southwestern bench provided 46 points while the Gents' reserves chipped in 16.
Centenary shot a sizzling 51.6 % to take a 53-37 lead at halftime and then shot 41.9 % in the second half to edge Southwestern, 37-36. The Pirates shot 46.2 % in the first half and 48.1 % in the second. Five Gents reached double figures, led by a career-high 26 points from senior F Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas). Three Southwestern players scored in double figures, led by 23 from Luke Hatcher.
Greenleaf was 8-13 from the floor and 10-14 at the FT line in 35 minutes and posted his ninth double-digit scoring performance this season and third in a row, has scored 20+ in all three of those games and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season. He added three assists and a pair of steals. Greenleaf played all 20 minutes in the first half and was 6-10 from the floor and 7-10 at the FT line with 19 points, eight rebounds, and no turnovers.
Junior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) scored 16 in his 26 minutes as he finished 5-11 from the floor and an impressive 5-10 from beyond the arc and 1-2 at the FT line with one rebound. Beverly has scored in double figures seven times this season and hit five treys in a game for the third time this season.
Senior G Craig Collier (North Little Rock, Ark.) scored 15 points in 34 minutes as he was 5-12 from the floor and 5-8 from beyond the arc to record his team-best 10th double-digit scoring performance of the season. Collier, who has scored in double figures in six-straight games, added four assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Freshman G Allen Paul (Katy, Texas) scored a season-high 12 points in 36 minutes on 4-9 shooting and was 4-8 from beyond the arc with four assists, a steal, and a rebound. Paul reached double figures for the first time this season and hit a season-best four treys. Freshman G Nicholas Addison (Cedar Hill, Texas) scored 10 points on 3-5 shooting and was 4-4 at the FT line as he scored in double figures for the fourth time this season. He grabbed eight rebounds and had a season-high five assists, four steals, and a blocked shot.
Senior G Jalen Ned (New Orleans, La.) chipped in five points in 16 minutes as he was 2-5 from the floor with a trey and had two rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot. Senior G Kyron Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored six in 20 minutes on 2-7 shooting from the floor with a pair of treys and three assists, two rebounds, and a steal.
Jared Robins scored 18 for the Pirates and Shobby Enakpene added 11. Sebastian Loder scored seven, Luke Mills had five, and five players combined to score nine points. Hatcher's 23 points were only behind Greenleaf's 26 in the game as he was 7-12 from the floor, 5-6 from beyond the arc, and 4-5 at the FT line in 31 minutes. He grabbed five rebounds and had four steals, two assists, and two blocked shots.
The Gents started fast and led 14-5 at the 16:02 mark of the first half after a trey by Ned. A layup by Greenleaf made it 21-7 with 14:06 on the clock and a trey by Paul gave Centenary a 30-15 lead with 12:09 left before halftime. Collier's trey at the 9:38 mark made it 37-17 and with 3:09 on the clock, Greenleaf made a jumper to five the Gents a 52-31 advantage. The Pirates finished the half on a 6-1 run over the final three minutes of the half but still trailed by 16 at the break.
Southwestern outscored Centenary 25-20 over the first 13 minutes of the second half to cut its deficit to 73-62 with 7:06 left in the game after a three-point play by Hatcher. Beverly, Powell, and Collier each hit a 3-point basket over the next three minutes to extend Centenary's lead to 82-67 with 3:56 left.
