Austin College Comes Up Short Against Mountaineers
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team battled throughout their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference home game against Schreiner University on Friday night, but the Mountaineers managed to keep the 'Roos at bay in a 75-70 contest in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 6-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

The 'Roos are now 6-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Price Bradley scored 22 points to lead Austin College while adding four assists and Jamien June added 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists, but those were the only two 'Roos to reach double figures in the scoring column, while Schreiner had four players reach double digits paced by a game-high 23 from Kamden Ross, who made 10-of-13 shots. Dylan Mackey scored 17 points and dished out a game-high eight assists for the Mountaineers, while Austin College's Ethan Pearce had 12 rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals. The Mountaineers shot 50% from the field in the game, compared to 38.2% shooting for Austin College.
Schreiner took a 30-24 lead into halftime, leading by as many as nine points before the break, but the 'Roos used a 10-0 run to open up the second half to surge ahead 34-30. The Mountaineers tied things up and the teams traded baskets and the lead over the next several minutes. Jackson Rennie and Pearce knocked down back-to-back threes for the 'Roos to put Austin College on top 49-46 with 11:50 remaining, and the teams would continue to go back and forth heading into the final minutes of the game. The Mountaineers slowly started to pull away in the final three minutes, with a basket by Craig Ward making it 71-64 with 1:30 left, and Austin College was unable to get the margin under five points the rest of the way.
Austin College will be looking to bounce back on Saturday evening when they host Trinity University at 6:00 p.m. in Hughey.
