Hot-Shooting HPU Tops 'Roo Men
BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup at Howard Payne University to wrap up 2024, with the Jackets knocking down 22 three pointers on their way to handing the 'Roos a 137-81 defeat. Austin College is now 5-5 overall on the year.
BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup at Howard Payne University to wrap up 2024, with the Jackets knocking down 22 three pointers on their way to handing the 'Roos a 137-81 defeat. Austin College is now 5-5 overall on the year.
Howard Payne was on fire throughout the game, scoring 61 points in the first half and pouring in 76 in the second frame, drilling 22-of-49 threes, a clip of 44.9%, while also shooting 54.3% from the field and hounding the 'Roos into 28 turnovers. Austin College, which defeated Howard Payne 115-107 earlier this season, struggled to get things going offensively, making just 6-of-24 attempts from long range and 37.5% from the field overall. The 'Roos outscored the Jackets 21-to-15 at the free throw line, but HPU scored 44 points off of turnovers and got 76 points of of the bench in the game.
Price Bradley scored a team-high 19 points for Austin College on 6-of-15 shooting, adding eight rebounds and three steals. Jackson Rennie and Kaleb Bennett each chipped in 11 points, with Rennie pulling down six rebounds while Bennett grabbed four, and Jamien June had nine points, three rebounds, and two assists. Armonie Ramey had a game-high 20 points to lead HPU, and Mason McGowen went 6-of-6 from long distance to score 18 for the Jackets.
Austin College is back at home and gets back into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host the University of Dallas at 2:00 p.m.
