Men's Cross Country Takes 18th At The DBU Old Glory Gallup

10/7/2024 1:45:00 PM

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Men's Cross Country was back in action competing in the DBU Old Glory Gallup 8K on Saturday, October 5th in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Pirates finished in 18th place as a team out of 41 teams, with multiple Pirates running their personal best.

Coach Joseph Sponsel said this about the meet "We knew going into the meet this weekend that conditions would be more favorable for some faster times than we've run this year, which is always exciting. However, I told the team that we need to measure our performance based on how we raced and applied lessons from earlier meets. Everyone we raced against had the same favorable conditions, but we needed to improve what we could control. As that is our definition of success, the team did well as a whole. For the most part, we ran smart races, consistently passing other runners and working together in groups. We're happy with results here, but nowhere close to satisfied. We're back to training for a couple weeks before heading up to Illinois for a big inter-regional meet. It's a chance for us to see how we stack up against D3 competition from across the country.

Also, A special shoutout is warranted for Xander Bailey, who raced in his first meet since sophomore year after a long road back from stress fractures. He's been super dedicated and patient in his rehab and build up to this moment and I'm so happy he was able to lace up his spikes again."
