Jacob Mason Wins Medalist Honors to Lead #16 Tigers to Third-Place Finish

SEGUIN, Texas – Trinity University All-American men's golfer Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) won the medalist honors at the John Bohmann Memorial Classic on Tuesday, leading the Tiger team to a third-place finish.

Mason tied for the individual honors with a score of 207 (68-68-71) after the 54th hole, setting up a playoff with Oliver Gasford of Our Lady of the Lake University (TX). Both players shot par on hole #10 and the playoff continued over at #18. Mason birdied the hole to pick up a win in the first tournament of the 2023-24 season.

The Tigers had a three-round total of 858 (287-281-290) over the last two days, which trailed Southwestern University (TX) by 10 shots and OLLU by seven. The five Trinity golfers playing as a team, along with the three individuals, all shot 76 or better today.

Dennis Butts (Houston, Texas / Stratford) had the low round of the day for the Tigers, shooting a one-under-par 70 to finished with a total score of 220 (74-76-70). Fellow individual competitors Aiden Marlow (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) and Giorgio Gianoulis (Salt Lake City, Utah / Rowland Hall) shot 228 (81-72-75) and 221 (73-72-76) for the tournament.

First-year Grant Clark (College Grove, Tenn. / Page) finished off his first collegiate event with an even-par 71 on Tuesday and was seventh individually with a total of 213 (74-68-71) for the tournament. He tied Mason for the team low of 68 and the duo were the only Tigers with two rounds of par or lower for the week.

Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) finished with a three-over 74 on Tuesday to earn a 219 (74-71-74) total score for the week. Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) was just one shot behind his teammate with a 220 (71-74-75). Luke Chuha (San Antonio, Texas / Cornerstone) finished with a 226 (74-78-74) over the 54-hole event.

The Tigers return to action in two weeks, heading to Temple, Texas, for UMHB Fall Intercollegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, September 25-26. Trinity will host the Alamo City Classic October 9-10 at The Quarry Golf Club, then close out the fall season at the Golfweek D-III Invitational in Destin, Florida.
