War Hawks collect two wins at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – McMurry University Men's and Women's Swimming faced Austin College on the road in a rematch from earlier in the year, but both teams came up short as the women fell, 153-43, and the men, 152-67.

Junior Dany Baki won the 1000-yard freestyle for the second time this year against the Kangaroos, bringing home the top spot in 11:26.37. Baki was not the only winner for the McM men, as freshman Ethan Sykes took the win in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:19.92.

Freshman Alec Satre and senior Jerick Pena finished second and third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.03 and 1:55.55, respectively. Sykes and Pena each brought home second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke, respectively, while McMurry also placed third and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke.

For the McM women, junior Jessica Gryder placed second in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 27.77 seconds. Senior Monica Flores had a pair of second place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, while freshman Mackenzie Reiner had a second in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The War Hawks are off until after the holidays when they return to Sherman January 5 for the Austin College Invitational.
