
HUNTSVILLE, TX- The University of St. Thomas Celts delivered an offensive showcase in Thursday's doubleheader sweep against Schreiner University at for a home game at of Don Sanders Stadium. The Celts took Game 1 by a 10-5 margin before exploding for a 16-6 run-rule victory in Game 2, extending their home winning streak to five games.
Game 1 UST 10, SCH 5
The Celts overcame early defensive miscues to take the series opener behind a five-run fourth inning. Schreiner struck first when A. Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch in the opening frame, but Sam Lampson answered with a solo blast to right in the second to knot the score 1-1.
Schreiner regained the lead in the third on back-to-back RBI plays capitalizing on a Celts' throwing error to take a 3-1 advantage. The tide turned in the fourth when Rey Izaguirre's RBI single sparked the decisive rally. Tyler Mills delivered the big blow with a two-run double to center, plating Izaguirre and Ryan Ratajczak. Two more runs scored on a Schreiner throwing error to make it 6-3.
After Schreiner pulled within 6-5 in the fifth, the Celts responded with three insurance runs. Alex Trinh drew a bases-loaded walk before Dillon McKee's two-run single to center gave UST breathing room. Trinh added an exclamation point with a solo shot in the eighth, his third homer of the season.
Game 2 UST 16, SCH 6
The nightcap saw the Celts overcome an early 4-0 deficit with an offensive explosion, scoring in every inning but the fourth. Schreiner cleared the bases with a first-inning triple, but Trinh immediately answered with a three-run blast to left in the bottom half.
UST took the lead for good in a wild fifth inning that saw 12 Celts come to the plate. Anthony Benavidez and Trinh drew RBI walks before McKee's bases-clearing double to left center broke the game open. Gabe Garner's RBI single capped the six-run outburst. The Celts invoked the run rule in the sixth when McKee tripled home Trinh, completing his 4-RBI night.
Trinh finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with two homers and six RBIs, while McKee drove in seven runs on the day.

The Celts go for the series sweep Sunday at 1 PM at Don Sanders Stadium. With the wins, UST moves into fourth place in the conference standings.
