
Gents Fall 1-0 To Pirates At Home
The Centenary men's soccer team fell 1-0 in a hard-fought match to the Southwestern University Pirates in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at Atkins Field.
Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team fell 1-0 in a hard-fought match to the Southwestern University Pirates in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at Atkins Field.
The Gents (7-7-1, 3-5-0 SCAC) and Pirates (8-2-4, 3-2-3 SCAC) battled to a scoreless draw at halftime and for the first 15+ minutes of the second half until Greyson Pinto found the net, assisted by Michael Grimm, at the 63:06 mark of the match for a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates' defense made that lead hold up over the next 27 minutes to secure the road victory. The Gents are now 4-3-1 at home this season while the Pirates improved to 3-1-1 on the road.
Centenary freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) recorded 10 saves in his 90 minutes to add to his conference-leading total of 74 entering Friday's match. Southwestern GK Scott Johnson also went the distance and recorded four saves. Johnson had three of his four saves in the second half.
The Pirates out-shot the Gents 20-9 and Centenary took four corner kicks to two for Southwestern. The Pirates were whistled for 13 fouls and the Gents nine and four yellow cards were issued in the match Southwestern picking up three and Centenary one.
The Gents wrap up the home weekend on Sunday at Noon when they face TLU (7-2-4, 3-2-3 SCAC) and will celebrate Senior Day before the match at approximately 11:40 a.m.
