
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southwestern Pirates dropped their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday afternoon, 2-0, to Rhodes College. With the loss the Pirates fall to 3-2-1 on the year and begin 0-1 in the conference.
Rhodes seemingly controlled the game early, taking nine shots to Southwestern's four in the first half and were awarded four more corner kicks than SU (5-1). Neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities and the match remained tied after the first 45 minutes.
It wasn't long into the second half, however, for the Lynx to take a 1-0 lead. Ladd scored fourteen minutes into the period. SU continued to push and attempted to tie the game but with under three minutes remaining Rhodes dashed their hopes with another goal putting the final count at 2-0.
Rhodes had 19 shots, 11 on goal, while Southwestern recorded five total, four on goal, for the game. The Lynx also had more corner opportunities (8-4).
Sophomore goal keeper Sarah Nonaka (pictured) was kept busy and racked up a season high nine saves.
The Pirates continue conferece action at Hendrix on Sunday beginning at 11:00 am.
