'Roo Baseball Splits with Dallas
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College baseball team split its doubleheader with the University of Dallas on Saturday at Baker Field, coming up just short in a 7-6 game one decision before bouncing back with a 7-4 victory in game two to bring the 'Roos to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Game one saw Austin College grab a 3-0 lead in the second inning, plating a trio of runs in the frame as Mason Woodhouse drove in the first run while Ashton Cason and Isaac Villa also brought a runner home, but Dallas responded with a run in the third and took the lead with a three-spot in the fourth to make it 4-3. Dylan Goddard has the go-ahead base hit for the Crusaders in the fourth, knocking two runs in with a single.
Austin College regained the lead in the fifth, with RayShawn Riley singling home the tying run and later coming home on a wild pitch to put the 'Roos on top 5-4, and that's how things would stand until the top of the eighth. Dallas managed to get three runs across in the frame to make it a 7-5 game, and after Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa drove in a run to cut it to 7-6 in the ninth, that's where things would end as the comeback bid fell short.
Trystan Mallory took the loss for Austin College, giving up four runs ons even hits in 4.0 innings of work, while William Mosley got the win for Dallas, going 8.0 innings with five runs, four earned, on 10 hits with eight strikeouts. Riley, Woodhouse, Cason, Easton Clark, and Desmond Squalls each had two hits for the 'Roos in the loss.
In game two, Dallas took the lead with a run in the top of the second and tacked on another score in the third to make it 2-0, but Austin College erupted for five runs in the fourth to make it a 5-2 game, and they'd maintain their lead for the duration. Woodhouse got the scoring started with a two-run double, and Scott Hosmer followed with a two-run two-bagger of his own. Cason finished the scoring in the inning, singling Hosmer home.
Dallas got one run back in the seventh to cut it to 5-3, but Tino Ramirez brought Isaac Villa home in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-3, and after the Crusaders got one more across the plate in the top of the eighth, Cason drove in one final insurance run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 7-4 final score.
Jonas CeBallos got the win for Austin College, giving up three runs - only one earned - on six hits with six strikeouts in 7.0 innings, and Brant Stuber earned his first save of the year, striking out the side in the ninth. Ramirez and Hosmer were both 2-for-3 to lead Austin College.
