COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.---A goal in each half propelled Concordia to a 2-0 win over Austin (Tex.) in the season opener for both teams.
The Cobbers were able to take advantage of an own goal in the 25th minute of play and then sophomore Rico Rolle added the Geico goal midway through the second frame to give Concordia its second straight season-opening win. Last year the Cobbers downed Dubuque 2-1 in Iowa.
Senior goalie Jensen Waltz stopped three shots to earn his second career shutout.
Rolle's unassisted strike at 63:13 was his first career goal for the Cobbers.
Concordia was outshot 9-7 in total shots but each team put four shots on frame in the game. Austin held a 5-1 in corner kicks.
The Cobbers will play host Colorado College on Saturday at 8 p.m. (cdt).
