GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's Golf competed in the TPC San Antonio Shootout hosted by Schreiner University on February 17th & 18th. Pirates played a 45 hole tournament where they competed on two different courses, Canyon Course and the Oaks Course, which I might add they played blind without seeing the course days before. The 13th ranked Pirates shot team scores of 294, 152 (9 holes) & 300 for this event, where they finished in 2nd place out of 12 teams to start the 2025 spring season.
The Pirates were led by sophomore Sam McClure who fired rounds of 68, 38, & 73 (-1) where he finished in 1st place individually for the first time in his college career. Behind him with a 3rd place finish was senior Matthew Peesker who shot rounds of 74, 37, & 74 (+4). Next in T4th place was sophomore Ricky Mitchell who finished with rounds of 70, 38, & 78 (+5) after him was freshman William Suell who shot 76, 39, & 75 (+9) putting him in 14th place. Finishing in 19th place was senior Bryce Stiemert with rounds of 76, 37, & 79 (+11), following him was junior Ethan Bridges who finished in 27th place shooting 76, 41, & 78 (+14). Rounding out the Pirates was freshman Tyler Rosson, he finished in 45th place after putting up rounds of 77, 39, & 85 (+20).
Southwestern men led the field in pars with 142 for the tournament which means they also led the field in least amount of bogeys with forty-four total. McClure was tied for first in par 3's playing them -1 for all three rounds and he was solo leader in pars himself with thirty-two. M. Peesker led the team in birdies for the tournament with eight. Suell was T2nd in par 5's playing them at an impressive -3 for the rounds.
