McMurry Men Get Weekend Sweep

ABILENE – McMurry Men's Swimming made it a weekend sweep while the University of Ozarks women did the same in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
 
The War Hawk men won their dual in dominating fashion, 137-33, as the McMurry women fell 83-69.
 
Leilani WashingtonCaitlyn Sauer-NewellLorin Mow and Maddy Rohrer again got the McMurry women headed in the right direction, winning the 200 medley relay in 2:01.67. That group won the 400 medley relay on Friday.
 
Rohrer also won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.02 and the 50 free in 26.08. Sauer-Newell took the 1000 freestyle in her best time this season, 11:46.33. That duo had a strong weekend. Rohrer also won the 100 freestyle in 57.41 and Sauer-Newell won the 200 individual medley in 2:28.39 on Friday.
 
"We saw once again some solid performances this weekend against the University of the Ozarks," said McMurry head coach Mark Jedow. "The lady War Hawks were led by Maddy Rohrer who had victories in the 200 Free, 50 Free and 100 Freestyle events and Caitlyn Sauer who won the 200IM and 1000 Free and finished second in the 400 IM and 200 Backstroke. While the girls came up short on the team victories they saw continued progress across several swimmers."
 
Victor Zambrano, Wes Scalf, Caden Motheral and Sterling Wright won the men's 200 medley relay in 1:44.47.
 
Zambrano also won the 400 individual medley in 4:38.34. He later won the 100 backstroke in 59.15 seconds.
 
Montgomery Cortez won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.81 and the 1000 freestyle in 11:23.88.
 
Harrison Brown took the 50 free in 23.95.
 
Elijah Trevino won the one-meter diving at 167.40. He won on Friday at 183.
 
Brown, Kristopher Cantu, Cortez and Scalf gave the War Hawks a win in the final event of the weekend, taking the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.79.
 
"On the men's side they came out victorious both days with 12 individual event victories," said Jedow. "Leading the men's side in victories was Monty Cortez with 4 wins in the 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Freestyle events, followed by Wes Scalf with victories in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke and the 200 IM, and by Victor Zambrano with victories in the 400IM and 100 Backstroke events."
 
It was a clean weekend sweep in the relays for the McMurry men. Zambrano, Scalf, Motheral and Brown won the 400 medley relay in 3:39.97, the best mark of the season for the War Hawks in that event. Cantu, Wright, Montgomery and Brown finished off Friday with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.56.
 
Also on Friday, Cortez won the 500 freestyle in 5:12.37 and the 100 freestyle in 51.92., Scalf won the 200 breaststroke with a season-best 2:14.94. He later had his best mark in winning the 200 IM in 2:02.80.
