Celts Dominate in Doubleheader

IRVING,TX- St. Thomas Softball team traveled to Irving, Texas, and delivered a dominant performance, sweeping the University of Dallas doubleheader games. With these wins, the Celts improved to 9-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

Game 1: St. Thomas 5, Dallas 0

The Celts wasted no time taking control in the top of the first inning, as Samantha Crumrin singled to left field, bringing in Rebecca Archibald for the first run of the game.

After a scoreless second inning, St. Thomas extended its lead in the third. Crumrin flied out to center field, allowing Jaelyn Simmons to advance to third and Archibald to score. Shortly after, Zoe Acosta reached first, allowing Simmons to cross home plate, making it 3-0.

The Celts continued to apply pressure in the fourth inning. Gabby Davila stole second base, which allowed Lindsey Gonzalez to score. Then, Delayne Moreno singled, bringing home Davila, securing the 5-0 victory.

The Crusaders had no response, as the Celts' defense and pitching shut them down for a complete-game shutout.

Game 2: St. Thomas 11, Dallas 2

The second game followed a similar script, with the Celts striking early. In the second inning, Lindsey Gonzalez crushed a two-run homer to left field, scoring Gabby Davila to give St. Thomas a 2-0 lead.

Dallas responded in the bottom half, cutting the lead to 2-1, but the Celts took over from there.

In the fifth inning, St. Thomas erupted for a four-run frame. Jaelyn Simmons reached on an error, allowing Delayne Moreno to score. Then, Chloe Bennett's groundout drove in Rebecca Archibald. Moments later, Gonzalez singled to center field, bringing in Ana Zozaya and Samantha Crumrin for a 6-1 advantage.

The Celts added more insurance runs in the sixth inning. Bennett doubled to center, scoring Simmons, followed by Crumrin's RBI double, making it 8-1.

They continued their offensive explosion in the seventh inning. Moreno singled to center, driving in Ciaira Gonzalez. Later, Bennett doubled down the left-field line, bringing in Archibald and Moreno, capping off an 11-1 lead.

Dallas managed to push across a final run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough, as the Celts closed out an 11-2 win to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Up Next

St. Thomas will look to finish the series strong, taking on Dallas in a single game tomorrow at 12 PM.
