#RV TLU Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas -- #RV Texas Lutheran Baseball split their Saturday doubleheader with Hardin-Simmons dropping game one, 4-1, before securing the four-game series with a 15-2 win in game two at Hunter Field in Abilene.

Texas Lutheran will return home to Katt-Isbel Field on Tuesday, March 4, with a mid-week non-conference game against Howard Payne. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM with the game being streamed on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

After combining for 29 runs across the first two games on Friday, Texas Lutheran was limited to one run in game one on Saturday.

Kash Durkin (Liberty Hill/Liberty Hill) had two hits in the game and Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) would score the Bulldogs only run.

Back-to-back sac flies in the second inning gave the Cowboys an early 2-0 lead before an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth extended their lead to 3-0. Texas Lutheran scored an unearned run in the sixth to break up the shutout. Hardin-Simmons added another insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth to bring the game to its final score.

Game two summarized three-fourths of the four-game series between the two teams as Texas Lutheran (7-4) poured on runs early and often. Texas Lutheran scored 15 runs on 21 hits, including five doubles, a triple, and two home runs.

Mason Goudeau went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI while Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) had a big day at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Tyler Helpenstill (Pearland/Lutheran South) finished a home run short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) hit his second home run of the weekend to finish 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Isaiah Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall) pitched five scoreless innings out of the bullpen and picked up the first win of his collegiate career. Carson Hues (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) also had a scoreless relief outing. Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) got the start and allowed two runs on two hits in one inning as he works his way back from injury.

A two-RBI single from Caleb Small (Round Rock/Gateway College Preparatory) got TLU on the board in the first before Hardin-Simmons would tie the game with their only runs of the afternoon's second contest in the bottom of the inning.

Texas Lutheran put up a five spot on six hits to jump back in front 7-2. After a leadoff single and a wild pitch, Brayden Sprencel (Robstown/Calallen) drove in Helpenstill with an RBI single. Following a one-out single, Mason Goudeau hit a three-run home run, his second home run of the series. An RBI single from Adam Peavy ended the scoring in the inning as the Bulldogs lead reached 7-2.

The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. A two-run home run from Greene got the scoring started in the fifth before Peavy hit his second RBI single of the game. In the sixth, an RBI double from Helpenstill, a wild pitch, and an RBI single from Goudeau led to three more runs and a 13-2 TLU lead. An RBI double from Kash Durkin and an RBI triple from Tyler Helpenstill brought the game to its final score in the seventh as the Bulldogs run-ruled the Cowboys.
