GEORGETOWN, Texas – Despite the starting lineup being riddled with first-years the Southwestern softball team looked like seasoned vets in their opener, defeating Southwestern Assemblies of God in a pair of 10-1 run rule victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pirates exploded for four runs in the first and two in the second to take a commanding lead.
- Taylor Curtis' 2-run shot over the left field fence in the fifth sealed the game one win 10-1.
- Southwestern opened strong again in game two with two runs before Amelia Fuchs unloaded for her first career collegiate homerun to dead center in the fourth to put SU up 4-1.
- A huge fifth inning culminated in a base-clearing triple from Marissa Irvin to hand the Pirates a second 10-1 run rule win.
