DESTIN, Fla. – The #16 Trinity University women's golf team finished in a tie for 15th at the 2024 Golfweek October Classic, hosted over the past three days at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
The Tigers shot a three-day score of 929 and tied with the University of Lynchburg (VA) after three rounds of play. All but one team ahead of Trinity in the final standings is ranked nationally according to the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association D-III poll. Trinity also saved its best day for last, shooting a team score of 299 on Tuesday – which was its only round under 300 this week.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) catapulted herself 25 spots up the individual leaderboard on Tuesday, following her final-round score of 68 (-4) that was not only a career-low, but was also tied for the lowest round of the tournament. Mason also tied the school record for the lowest single round score to par at minus-four. Starting on the back nine of the course, she birdied the second hole and played minus-one for the back nine. After the turn, Mason caught fire with five birdies among the first seven holes to wrap up the tournament in style. Mason shot 220 (73-79-68) over the three-day event.
Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente Molino (Marbella, Spain / Atalaya) finished with a three-day total of 228 (74-77-77) and was 12-over for the week. She had two of her three birdies over the final seven holes today after playing her front nine at just plus-two.
Kate Schulle (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) also notched her best day of the tournament with a 10-shot improvement from yesterday's round. Schulle shot 237 (79-84-74) for the week, carding a pair of birdies to play her final nine holes at minus-one.
Carmen Kennett (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) finished with a third-round 80 and shot 247 (88-79-80) for the week, while
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) finished with a 252 (86-83-83) at the tournament. Huddleston played her final nine holes at even-par, while Kennett also finished strong with a plus-two score of 38 on her final nine holes.
