LAKE WHITNEY, Texas – The Tiger men's golf team finished off the season-opening Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Fall Preview by winning both the team and medalist honors.
Trinity shot 596 (292-304) over the two-day event, winning by 13 shots over second-place Southwestern University (TX). The Tigers led by eight strokes after day one, then added five more to its lead by the end. Third place was claimed by the tournament host, University of St. Thomas, with a total score of 613. The University of Dallas (TX) was fourth, followed by Texas Lutheran University, McMurry University (TX), Centenary College (LA), Concordia University (TX), and Schreiner University (TX).
Medalist honors went to Trinity All-American
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family), who shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to pull ahead for the victory. Mason was two shots behind in a tie for third place after yesterday's round, but four birdies and an eagle today helped him to finish with a one-under total score of 143. He was also the tournament leader with 11 birdies over the 36-hole event.
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) jumped up from a tie for eighth to finish in a tie for second by the end of the tournament. Sandhu shot 146 (73-73) for the week, carding both of today's birdies in the first seven holes of the round.
Jack McKay (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) shot 155 (77-78) to tie for 18th, while
Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) was one shot back in a tie for 24th.
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) was tied for 27th was just one stroke behind Code in a tie for 27th.
Giorgio Gianoulis (Salt Lake City, Utah / Rowland Hall) and
Brody Grieb (Bend, Ore. / Summit) both played as individuals in this week's tournament. Gianoulis shot 153 (73-80) to tie for 13th individually, while Grieb finished in a tie for 29th with his score of 158 (73-85).
