HOUSTON – The Tiger men's golf team finished off the 54-hole Space City Classic on Tuesday afternoon, coming in as the runner-up in the two-day tournament that was held at the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course.
Trinity finished the tournament with a team score of 298 on Tuesday and shot a three-round total of 888 after carding a 291 and 299 yesterday. Concordia University (TX) won the tournament with a total score of 884 (292-299-293), scoring two of the top three team scores for the week. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor finished third and was just one shot behind Trinity, followed by University of St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran University in the top five.
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) shot an even-par 213 (68-70-75) for the tournament and was just two shots behind Texas Lutheran's individual winner. Mason led the field at 7-under in Par 5 scoring this week, averaging 4.22 on those holes. He also carded a pair of eagles over the three rounds, adding eight birdies as well.
Grant Clark (College Grove, Tenn. / Page) tied for a spot in the top five with a score of 218 (69-73-76) and he was one of three Tiger golfers to tie for the team lead with nine birdies over the last two days of action. Clark tied for the team lead and was tied for a spot in the top five in Par 3 scoring, while also finishing 2-under on Par 5 scoring for the week. Mason and Clark both earned spots on the All-Tournament Team after finishing in the top five individually.
Dennis Butts (Houston, Texas / Stratford) shot a three-round total of 230 (78-76-76) to tie for a spot in the top 25.
Aiden Marlow (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) played as an individual and was just two shots back of Butts with a score of 232 (78-72-82).
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) had the lowest round on the team today with his even-par 71, finishing with a 235 (78-86-71) for the tournament.
Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) wrapped up the Tiger contingent with a score of 239 (76-80-83) for the week.
