Men's swimming remains unbeaten after double dual wins

SHERMAN, Texas – The McMurry University swim teams brought home two victories after competing in a double dual meet against Austin College and Centenary College Saturday, held at the Hannah Natatorium in Sherman, Texas.

The men claimed two more wins to remain unbeaten this season, taking down Austin College 178-40 and snagging a close matchup with Centenary 117-111. The men are now 4-0 in regular season matchups.

"Today's meet was a lot of fun especially going up against tough competition," said McMurry head coach Casey Pacheco. "We knew this was going to be a meet of picking up extra spots and swimming some events out of our comfort zones. The team responded well and competed from the first event to the last."

Freshman Alfonso Santoya came up big for McMurry early in the day, earning first-place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.83.

Santoya went on to close out the individual events with a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:58.54.

Junior Alec Satre fought off 'Roos sophomore Sean Cookson in the 50-yard free by just .18 of a second, earning first place with a race time of 23.39.

Freshman Isaiah Narvaez showed much improvement from last week, earning first place in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.18, shaving off 13.94 seconds from his previous weeks second place finish at the Colorado College Double Duals.

Sophomore Terrin Boehmer earned second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.09 and the 100-yard free in 51.71 to help keep McMurry neck and neck with Centenary.

Heading into the final heat, the War Hawks couldn't let up knowing the Gents were on their heels.

With a first and second place win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, McMurry would seal the deal, earning their third and fourth wins of the season.

The women competed at a high level but came up short in both battles, falling 149-74 to Austin College and 139.50-76.50 against Centenary.

Junior Kristina Sullivan continued her winning streak in the 500-yard free, earning first place with a race time of 5:45.21. Sullivan also earned a podium finish in the 1650-yard free, tagging in for second-place at 19:38.85.

Freshman Macie Lindenmier and sophomore Maddie Smith earned top two finishes in the 100-yard back. Lindenmier posted a time of 1:11.42 as Smith followed just behind to finish at 1:12.04.

Freshman's Cheyenne Lavender and Melanie Jimenez earned podium finishes in the 100-yard free, posting times of 1:01.41 and 1:02.29 respectively to earn second and third.

The next scheduled event for McMurry swimming is the 2021 SCAC Championships, beginning February 11 in San Antonio, Texas.

This year's swim schedule is subject to change.
