Trinity Men's Golf Finishes Second at UMHB Fall Tournament

BELTON, Texas - The 16th-ranked Trinity men's golf team finished second at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational at the Sammons Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Tigers shot a two-day total of 547 to finish just four shots behind the University of Texas-Dallas. Trinity's second-day total of 269 matches the low round of the tournament that UT-Dallas shot on Monday. The two schools were the only teams to finish under par for the tournament.

Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) led the way for the Tigers after shooting a two-round total of 131 (66-65) to finish second place individually. Mason shot an incredible nine-under for the week, but finished two shots off the medalist from Centenary College. Mason was second in the tournament with 11 birdies over the 36 holes of action this week, and he was one of three Trinity golfers to shoot under par.

Joining their teammate with under-par scores were Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) and Giorgio Gianoulis (Salt Lake City, Utah / Rowland Hall). Code finished in a tie for fifth after a combined score of 1136 (67-69) that left him four-under for the tournament, while Gianoulis shot a 139 (72-67) to finish one-under overall and tied for seventh individually. Code finished with nine birdies in the two rounds, while Gianoulis was third in the field with 25 total pars for the week.

Grant Clark (College Grove, Tenn. / Page) and Jack McKay (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) were both tied for 23rd individually, finishing at plus-four 144 for the week. Clark shot 75-69 over the two rounds, while McKay followed a 76 on day one with a 68 in today's action. Dennis Butts (Houston, Texas / Stratford) finished in a tie for 36th with a score of 147 (73-74) after notching 24 pars on his 36 holes.

Trinity will resume play in two weeks, hosting the Alamo City Classic at The Quarry Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, October 9-10.
