Tigers Cruise Past Crusaders

Box Score Playing its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road game of the season, Colorado College closed out the first half on a 27-10 run and cruised to a 75-62 victory over the University of Dallas on Friday night at the Maher Center.

Sophomore guard Eric Houska finished with a game-high 17 points and dished out four assists for the Tigers, who improved to 9-6 overall and maintained sole possession of first place in the conference with a 5-0 record.

Senior guard Justin Berardino added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore forward Andrew Maddock finished with 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

CC made 11 of 22 three-point attempts, including nine of 14 in the first half, while the Crusaders were just 5-for-15 from behind the arc.

Houska and Berardino led the onslaught with three apiece, while senior swingman Luke Winfield and freshman guard Luke Nakakihara each dialed long distance twice.

Senior forward James Lonergan hauled in 12 rebounds, reaching double figures for the second time this season, to help Colorado College post a 40-31 advantage on the glass.

The Tigers built a 21-point lead when Berardino connected from downtown with 14:18 remaining in the second half, but UD made a valiant comeback and cut its deficit to 61-51 after freshman guard TJ Cooks hit a three-pointer with 5:23 to play.

CC dialed up the defensive pressure and held the Crusaders scoreless during their next five possessions. The Tigers took a 14-point lead on a dunk by sophomore forward John Hatch and sealed the victory by sinking eight of 10 free throws during the final 64 seconds.

Junior guard Lorenzo Gonzalez recorded 15 points and six assists for Dallas, which slipped to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the SCAC.

Junior forward Tom Kaiser finished with 11 points, while first-year guard Prince Giadolor added 10 for UD.

Colorado College puts its five-game winning streak on the line Saturday night when the Tigers visit Austin College at 6 p.m. CT.
