STERLING HOLMES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, November 20th.
Holmes led Texas Lutheran to two wins during the opening week, one at home and one on the road.
Holmes averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two games, while also shooting 66.7% from the field. In Tuesday's game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Holmes was 5-for-6 from distance. He followed that up with a 3-for-6 performance Thursday night. In 59 minutes of action, Holmes turned the ball over just two times.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Michael Sarrat of the University of Dallas averaged 12.7 points in three games during the opening week, including a career-high 21 points against Hendrix. Senior guard Brian Baehl of Austin College had a strong opening week, averaging 12.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and one steal per game. First year forward Danny Rivara of Trinity University led the Tigers to a 2-1 record to start the season, averaging 18.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field. Senior forward Zach Whitlock of Southwestern University averaged a double-double with 17 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Pirates went 1-1 on the week. Junior guard Travion Kirkendoll of Centenary College helped the Gents go 2-1 on the week, averaging 16.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game during the opening stanza.
