DANNY RIVARA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Horseshoe Bay, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, November 26th.
Rivara led Trinity to a pair of wins over the last week, defeating Howard Payne at home and scoring a road win over Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Rivara averaged a double-double with 21.5 points/game and 10.0 rebounds/game, as well as shooting 53.1% (17-32) and adding 2.0 steals/game and 3.0 blocks/game to his stat line.
Rivara started with a career-best 30-point outing to lead the Tigers to a narrow 92-90 overtime win over HPU, shooting 12-20 from the field and 6-9 from the foul line, and adding 12 boards and three blocks. He also recorded the game-winner in overtime with 10 seconds remaining.
Against UMHB, Rivara finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, adding two steals and three blocks in the win. For the season, Rivara leads the Tigers in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.6 points/game and 9.2 rebounds/game over the five-game start to the year. He is shooting 47.6% (30-63) from the field, and has also added six steals and nine blocks this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Michael Holland of Austin College had a huge weekend, averaging a double-double with 21.0 points and 13.0 rebounds, while shooting 66.7% from the field. Senior guard Travion Kirkendoll of Centenary College scored 28 points in the Gents' only game last week, while also grabbing five rebounds and three steals. Freshman guard Michael Wambsganss of the University of Dallas averaged 16.7 points and four rebounds as the Crusaders went 2-1 on the road last week. Senior guard Keenan Gumbs of Schreiner University averaged a league-high 24.3 points last week, while pulling down 6.3 rebounds and dishing out 2.0 assists per game. Sophomore forward Brandon Alexander of Southwestern University averaged 20.5 points and five rebounds as the Pirates went 1-1 last week. Junior guard Nathan Josephs of Texas Lutheran University helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week, averaging 19.0 points and seven rebounds.
