Trinity beat Southwestern University 77-65 in yesterday's SCAC championship game to earn the SCAC automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Trinity junior forward Libby Kruse was named the SCAC Tournament MVP after averaging 8.5 points, 11 and six assists per game during the SCAC Tournament.
In the SCAC Championship game, Kruse nearly notched a triple-double as she scored nine points dished out eight assists and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Trinity (23-4), which won its first SCAC championship since 2005, will take on the Lewis & Clark Pioneers (24-3) in Portland, Ore. on Friday, March 1 at a time to be determined. Lewis & Clark fell to Whitworth, 76-61 in the NWC tournament championship game and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA playoffs.
The winner of the Trinity/Lewis & Clark game will take on the winner of the Whitman (20-5) vs. Cal Lutheran (23-4) winner in the second round on Saturday, March 2.
The Tigers are in the NCAA tournament for the seventh time since the 1991-92 season and hold a 7-5 record in NCAA tournament play in their six previous trips to the national tournament. The SCAC is 0-1 all-time against NWC in NCAA postseason play.
