MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After earning SCAC Player of the Week earlier this week, senior guard Karisa Cantu of the Texas Lutheran women's basketball team was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for her performance this past weekend.
Helping lead a scoring onslaught that helped the Bulldogs average 90.5 points per game in two home wins, Cantu tied for the team lead with 20.5 points per contest.
The senior from San Antonio, Texas, was an even 50 percent from the field over the weekend, knocking down 10-of-20 shots, including 4-of-8 from three-point land. She also consistently got to the free throw line, making 17-of-20 from the stripe over the two games. The guard was second on the team with 10 assists.
In Friday's 89-77 win over Austin College, Cantu dropped 16 points on 3-of-9 shooting. She did a majority of her damage from the free throw line, making 9-of-10. She also dished out seven assists.
She capped off the weekend in memorable fashion, pouring in a TLU career-high 25 points in a 92-75 win over Dallas. Cantu shot 7-of-11 from the field against the Crusaders, including 3-of-4 from the three-point line. She scored 19 of her 25 points in the second half, helping the Bulldogs pull away.
For the season, Cantu is second on the team with 12.5 points per game (ninth in SCAC) and third in the SCAC with 89 assists on the season. She is also third in the conference in steals with 45 and assist/turnover ratio at 1.8.
