Marguerite Spaethling, Colorado College, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 1)

MARGUERITE SPEATHLING OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior middle blocker from Larkspur, Calif. has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 31st through Monday, September 3rd. 

Spaethling was voted the MVP of the 2018 Colorado College Classic in a ballot of the opposing coaches. The Junior middle hitter had a hand in 14 total blocks to help the Tigers limit their four opponents to a combined .049 hitting percentage. In what turned about to be the tournament championship match, Spaethling put down nine kills and had a hand in four blocked shots. She posted tournament highs of 11 kills and five block assists in the sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan University. 

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle hitter Myca Steffey-Bean of Colorado College was named to the all-tournament team at the 201 Colorado Classic by opposing coaches this weekend, Steffey-Bean recorded 1.50 kills per set. Junior outside hitter Jamison Duck of Southwestern averaged 3.36 digs per set and 1.07 aces per set. Senior defensive specialist Tatiana Ferrari of Austin College, averaged a team-best 3.93 digs per set and totaled 55 digs over the weekend. Freshman middle blocker Bailey Young of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in total blocks over the weekend with 17 and 15 block assists.
