SEGUIN, Texas - No. 1 seed Texas Lutheran
University pounded out 12 hits including a three RBI day from
Taylor Yancey to take a 7-2 win over Austin College in the third
game of the 2014 SCAC Softball Championships. Box Score | Official

The sophomore first baseman from Magnolia, Texas found herself in
the middle of a four-run third inning for the Bulldogs that proved
to be the difference in the game. She cranked a two-run single in
the inning that put TLU up 4-1.
Sophomore Jacquelyn Brown got the inning started with an
RBI infield single that scored senior Molly Gorrie. The bases were
loaded before Yancey's single and all three hits to load the bases
were of the infield variety.
That third-inning explosion was crucial for the Bulldogs after
Austin College jumped out to the early led. The 'Roos, who scored
just two runs in the four regular season matchups between the two
teams, got on the board in the first inning behind back-to-back
leadoff doubles from sophomore Briana Hernandez and senior Taylor
Steelman.
Sophomore Taylor Grissom allowed that first-inning run and gave up
two hits and two walks in her three innings of work. Her outing was
cut short after giving up two leadoff walks to start the fourth
inning.
That's where freshman Samantha Yenne entered the game and did a
masterful job of getting the Bulldogs out of the inning without
allowing a run. She struck out two in the frame. She finished her
outing with three strikeouts while allowing just three hits in her
four innings of work.
The Bulldogs ended up outhitting Austin College 12-5 in the game.
Sophomore Grace Estesjoined Yancey as the other Bulldog to rack up
three hits. She finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. Gorrie added
two hits on the afternoon.
Steelman led the 'Roos offensively with a 2-for-3 day.
Grissom and Yenne combined to hold the 'Roos to just two runs on five hits for the game. Yenne earned the win, improving to 8-2 on the year, despite not getting the start. Freshman Victoria Herrera took the loss for the 'Roos
