SAL PERDOMO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Irving, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending October 14, 2012.

Perdomo, a driving force behind the Trinity University cross country team's No. 2 South/Southeast USTFCCCA Regional ranking, earned his first-ever individual collegiate win to open the 2012 season, and has been the top Trinity runner in three of four meets so far this season.

He earned his third All-SCAC selection last season, finishing seventh at last year’s Championship meet, and he was a 2010 USTFCCCA All-Region honoree. He was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team in 2010, and has served as a team captain for both cross country and track each of the past two years. Perdomo is also Trinity’s school record-holder in the 3000-meter Steeplechase.

Even when he’s not racing around cross country courses for the Tigers, Perdomo is still a clear leader among his peers in the classroom and in the community. He has been the Student Athlete Advisory Committee President since 2010, and was selected to represent the SCAC at the 2012 NCAA Convention. He was part of the Trinity SAAC group that helped raise $18,000 for Texas WINGS and Susan G. Komen for the Cure last year, and is helping plan a similar event for 2012.

Perdomo has served as a Trinity Student Ambassador since 2012, planning Senior Roasts each of the past two years. He has also been a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Trinity since 2009. Off campus, Perdomo has done work for five years with the Forever I Serve Him Mission Trip through the Catholic Church. The group does light construction for houses in underprivileged socio-economic areas. Perdomo has also attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
