DePauw University earns NCAA bid; To play at home in regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - DePauw University (28-7), Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, will represent the SCAC in the 2009 NCAA Division III Softball Championship field of 59 teams. The Tigers, who also were chosen as a regional host, will open up the NCAA tournament at home against North Coast Athletic Conference champion Hiram College (26-14).

The Tigers are making its third-straight NCAA appearance and enter regional play as the No. 2 seed in the Greencastle, Ind. region. Hiram enters as the No. 7 seed in the Greencastle, Ind. region. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

The Greencastle region is comprised of seven teams. The remaining five are No.1 seed Ohio Northern (35-3/Ohio Athletic Conference), No. 3 seed Adrian (34-6/Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association), No. 4 seed Trine (29-10/Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association), No. 5 seed Defiance (29-10/Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) and No. 6 seed Thomas More (34-9/Presidents' Athletic Conference). 

Regional play begins Thursday, May 7 and runs through Sunday, May 10. The winner of the double-elimination Greencastle regional will advance to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship to be held May 15-19 at the Montclair State University Softball Stadium in Montclair, N.J.
