SYDNEY FRIDAY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right-hander from Sugar Land, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 16 through Sunday, April 22.
Friday led the Tigers to a 3-1 record against
Southwestern this past weekend, clinching the team’s first
SCAC West Division title since the 2008 season.
Friday pitched three complete-game victories in
her only appearances for the week, posting an ERA of just 1.11 for
the weekend, and striking out 10 batters in 19 innings. She opened
the weekend with a one-hit shutout over the Pirates, then turned
right around to nab a 5-1 victory in game two.
On Sunday, Friday led the Tigers to a
division-clinching win over Southwestern in game one of the final
doubleheader of the regular season, scattering 10 hits over seven
innings.
For the season, Friday leads the Tigers with a
14-6 record and a 1.26 ERA in 23 appearances. She has recorded
eight shutouts and 19 complete games in her 20 starts, striking out
88 batters in 133.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just
.208 against her this season, and she has allowed just 24 earned
runs.
