RAQUEL VARA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior infielder from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, February 19th.
Vara had a big weekend at the plate, batting .462 with a homer, a double, a triple and six runs batted in as the 'Roos went 2-2.
Vara boasted a .923 slugging percentage, and added a stolen base and five runs scored.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Marissa Irvin of Southwestern University hit .667 and drove in a pair of runs in the Pirates doubleheader Saturday. Freshman short stop Cassie Roche of Texas Lutheran University hit .375 with five RBI, three walks and three stolen bases as TLU went 4-2 on its road trip through the South. Sophomore third-baseman Rylie Goldwait of Trinity University led the Tigers with three hits and a .429 batting average in the season-opening doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
