Trinity University on the Rise in D3hoops.com Top 25

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Trinity University's women's basketball team jumped three spots to No. 17 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 after a perfect 2-0 start to conference play. 

The Tigers earned a win over Colorado College with a final score of 91-49 before escaping the Ladies of Centenary College with an 81-76 overtime victory.

The Tigers improved their overall record to 11-2 and are currently leading the league in defensive points allowed (56.6), shooting (40.2%), steals (10.8 per game), and 3-point field goals made (7.3per game). This season, Trinity has held opponents to a league-best 31.4% shooting.

Junior guard Monica Holguin leads Trinity in scoring and is currently shooting 41% from the field for 13.3 points per game. Senior forward Anecia Richardson is close behind with 11.7 points per game on 51.5% shooting. 

USA TODAY Sports has Trinity jumping two spots this week to No. 21. The USA TODAY Sports committee of coaches is made up of nine head coaches at Division III institutions. All are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The Tigers continue conference play this weekend against Texas Lutheran University and Southwestern University
