Sarah Mullens, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3)

Sarah Mullens of Trinity University, a senior defensive specialist from Aurora Colo., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 10th to Sunday September 16th.

Mullens led the seventh-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a trio of SCAC victories last week, defeating Centenary, Southwestern, and Austin College. Mullens posted double-digit digs in all three contests, capped off by her 23 digs in a comeback win over Austin on Saturday. Mullens tallied 52 total digs (5.20/set) for the weekend, as well as recording three service aces. So far this season, Mullens leads the Tigers with 140 total digs and 3.18 digs/set, as well as scoring a team-best 19 service aces on the year.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Southwestern senior defensive specialist Brandi Campos, who averaged 5.36 digs-per-set, led her team to two SCAC victories over Schreiner and Texas Lutheran. Junior middle blocker Marguerite Spaethling had eight total blocks during Colorado College’s three victories last week. Freshman libero Mari Prazak of Austin College averaged 5.08 digs-per-set, including a career-high 28 digs in a five-set win over Texas Lutheran. She also had 21 digs in a four-set loss to Trinity, and added 14 assists over the weekend. Dallas freshmen defensive specialist Lexi Schafer combined for 33 digs in two performances over the weekend. Junior defensive specialist Marissa Sandoval of Centenary averaged 4.14 digs-per-set to help the Ladies go 3-1 on the week. Junior defensive specialist Jaci Chambers totaled 135 digs and averaged 6.14 digs-per-set for Texas Lutheran in 5 matches this week.
