SCAC Women's Cross Country Recap - Week Two

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six of the league's seven women's cross country teams hit the trails this past weekend - highlighted by the Trinity women winning their second consecutive race of the 2017 season.

Trinity, in addition to Austin College and Schreiner, ran at the Our Lady of the Lake Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers chalked up 43 points in the 5K event, edging both Texas Wesleyan and St. Edward's (Tex.) by a 15-point margin. The victory marked the third consecutive year Trinity has won this event.

Rounding out the other SCAC participants, Austin College placed fifth and Schreiner placed seventh.

Trinity's top women's runner was Laura Taylor, who clocked in at 19:25.7 for a sixth-place finish. Brianna Ratliff raced to a new personal-best time and was just two seconds behind Taylor.

A day earlier, Texas Lutheran and Dallas participated at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational. The TLU women finished third in the seven-team field, led by the performances of seophomre Ashley Rynard (19:56.43) and freshman Felicia Ortiz (20:11.15), who finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 5K event. Dallas came in sixth-place with freshman Clare Hernandez (21:09.18) pacing the Crusaders with a 12th-place individual finish.

Juniors Allysa Warling and Leah Veldhuisen each posted an individual top-20 result to lead the CC women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the CC Invitational Saturday morning at North Monument Valley Park.

Warling, who finished fourth at the Rust Buster Meet last weekend, finished in 10th place overall and ninth among collegiate runners by covering the 6K course in 24:00.5. Veldhuisen, meanwhile, was 17th overall and 14th in the college field with a time 24:38.3. CC was the only Division III team in the field, joined by Division II foes Colorado School of Mines, UCCS, CSU-Pueblo, Metro State, Regis and Westminster College (Utah).
