RACHEL
GRINNELL OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior on the
Ladies' golf team, has been selected the SCAC Character &
Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending
May 12, 2013.
Grinnell has been a member of the Centenary women’s
golf team for four years and playe din every tournament the team
competed in over that four-year stretch. She was also a member of
the Centenary women's tennis team this past spring.
On campus, Grinnell has been an active member of Fellowship of
Christian Athletes (FCA), and for the last two years, was on the
FCA Leadership Team. That group was charged with planning the
weekly FCA meetings.
During both her sophomore and junior year, she was the
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) golf team representative,
and this past year, she had the honor of serving as the SAAC Vice
President. As Vice President, Grinnell was vital in implementing
several key programs. One such project involved each Centenary team
adopting a child from the Salvation Army Angel Tree in November.
She was also instrumental in the Centenary SAAC conducing half-time
games at athletic events in the sports of soccer and basketball. In
addition, Grinnell organized a unified flag football game with the
Northwest Special Olympics of Louisiana this spring, and organized
a Special Olympics baseball game night as well.
Grinnell also was involved on campus in Resident Life, serving as
a RA her sophomore year. Her junior and senior years, she assumed
the position of Hall Director and was in charge of an entire
building instead of just one floor. Through her work with Residence
Life, Grinnell was able to start an event called Student
Appreciation Week on campus, after sensing that student morale was
low after some large changes had been made on campus.
During her senior year, Grinnell became a senator in the Student
Government Association (SGA) - representing the Centenary senior
class. Through SGA, she assisted in continuing her initial idea and
conducted the second annual Student Appreciation Week, and was also
able to start a new student section for athletic events called the
Maroon Mob.
This year, Grinnell was a member of the Maroon Jackets and served
as a campus host/liaison between the President of the college and
the students.
In her four years at Centenary, Grinnell has been named to the
Dean’s list six times. She is member of Omicron Delta Kappa
Honors Society, National Residence Hall Honorary Honors Society,
Psi Chi Honors Society, and Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society. This
year, Grinnell received the FCA College Athlete of the Year for
Northwest Louisiana.
